Current reform agenda

Caring crosses all levels of government and the many agencies that provide health and community care services. Our policy team works with many different bodies, in different ways to promote the needs of caring families.

As well as working with local government and agencies, Carers ACT makes a significant contribution to national submissions prepared by Carers Australia and the Network of Carers Associations. We may also advocate on national issues that are of particular importance to caring families in the ACT.

In addition to policy submissions made through consultations with carers, we regularly communicate and meet with relevant ministers and political parties to brief them on evidence-based issues of concern to caring families.

ACT agenda

The priorities for our local campaign continually change based on the needs of carers and development of the service system.  Examples of recent priorities are:

  • supported accommodation
  • tenancy and support for people with complex needs related to their disability
  • respite care services in the ACT
  • post school options
  • mental health reform
