Counselling Program

Sometimes the stresses and demands of caring bring up difficult emotions. Our counselling program can help to explore ways of dealing with difficult situations and to balance caring in your life.

Our qualified counsellors are located onsite in Holt and Woden to provide carers with professional face-to-face and telephone counselling that can help with stress management, coping methods, communication skills and more.

The service is available by appointment during the following times:

Holt: Monday to Friday from 9:00am till 5:00pm
Woden: Monday to Friday 9:00am till 5:00pm

Call 1800 242 636 from anywhere in the ACT (free call from local phones, mobile calls at mobile rates).

“My counsellor was wonderful. Her words and encouragement helped me understand what I was going through.”

How does it work?

This service is available to all family carers in the ACT and we can also provide counselling to those who have recently stopped providing care (if the cared-for person has moved into residential care, for example, or has passed away).

We provide short-term counselling and if required we can arrange interpreting services.

What is involved?

Our carer counselling program will link you up with qualified professionals who understand the problems that caring families often face. You can talk to us by yourself or include your partner and other family members.

The professional, qualified counsellors can help you:

  • Manage overwhelming and confusing feelings
  • Process your experiences as a carer
  • Identify needs and develop solutions to problems
  • Manage conflict, stress and other emotional factors
  • Build resilience and cope with change
  • Manage mental, emotional and physical well-being

Cost

Clients are requested to make a financial contribution towards the cost of the counselling service, however if you are not in a position to make a contribution, please  discuss this with our staff at the time of making your booking.
