We were very proud to officially launch our first Reconciliation Action Plan at our National Reconciliation Week BBQ lunch yesterday. Our RAP outlines the actions we are taking on our journey towards achieving reconciliation and building our relationships with the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander local community.

Thank you to our special guests Auntie Agnes for the Welcome to Country, Reconciliation Australia’s Andrea Kelly (Deputy CEO) and Sarojni Samy (RAP Officer), all our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander carers and our lovely and talented musicians Darren, Sox, Karen and Sharon.

The launch was the highlight of our Reconciliation Week BBQ lunch, where over 100 carers, their families and industry and community representatives enjoyed a BBQ, music and cultural entertainment. We particularly acknowledge our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander carers, who have taught us so much about family, caring, love, community and acceptance and have enriched our lives through sharing their culture and experiences with us.

Another highlight of the day was the presentation by the Nguluway Cultural Art Group of their lovely collaborative eight-piece mural depicting the serpent and its journey. Each
artist’s piece reflected their own cultural journey and we have hung the mural in our main hallway as a beautiful reminder to us all of our own journey towards reconciliation.

We also celebrated and acknowledged our outgoing Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Care Coordinator, Donna, for her nine years of passion, commitment, vision, support and dedication to reconciliation and equality and for supporting our carers with dignity, respect, care and compassion. We wish her well and she will be sorely missed.
