Who are carers?

Carers are partners, spouses, children, family, friends or neighbours who assist someone who is living with disability, is ageing or has an ongoing mental illness, addiction or other illness. Carers provide informal, unpaid help with daily living activities such as:

  • Transport, shopping and meals
  • health care
  • reading and writing
  • emotional and mental support
  • maintaining the house and garden.

Whilst caring can be enormously rewarding, it can also bring financial hardship, social isolation, health and well-being issues, frustration, stress and exhaustion.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to nurture, connect and empower carers so that they can reach their goals and aspirations. We do this through providing practical support such as:

  • short term replacement care so that carers can have a break
  • counselling
  • educational workshops
  • social and therapeutic activities, and

What does our board do?

Primarily our Directors provide strategic awareness to identify possibilities and seize new opportunities to ensure the future direction of the organisation. Directors do this by fulfilling their legal obligations whilst engaging in robust discussions that incorporate real world knowledge, trends and possible futures that guide choices about strategic directions.

Our Board is supported by a Risk and Finance Committee, comprising 3 Board members, which has oversight of the financial and risk management of the organisation.  The organisation employs a team of qualified accountants and Chief Operating Officer (COO) who manage the day-to-day finances and reporting.  Our Annual Report, annual financial statements (audited by Bell Chambers Barrett); and Constitution are available on our website. The Board is also supported by a Clinical Governance Committee.
