Do you look after someone who is elderly or has dementia? The Deakin Cottage is a low-needs respite service supporting carers who need a break from their caring role.
A Break for Carers With Peace of Mind
The Deakin Cottage is a ‘home away from home’ which provides professional and personal care for people who are ageing and/or living with dementia (including early onset dementia). They can have a short overnight stay or join our day program.
By booking your family member into Deakin Cottage, you can take time out to:
- attend appointments
- continue working if you choose to / need to
- just relax and take time for yourself.
A Nurturing Environment
Our Cottage is set amongst safe and secure gardens in the leafy suburb of Deakin. The nurturing environment created by our dedicated staff is immediately apparent from the passionate love of caring and genuine concern for our clients to the freshly made meals prepared with home-grown ingredients. We provide highly individualised care with four bedrooms available for overnight or short stays. We also operate a popular day program.
Married couples are also welcome to stay at the Cottage, giving them the opportunity to stay together while leaving the day-to-day household tasks and care needs to the staff. Our clients and staff love this experience.
Our key goal is to assist our clients with everyday living skills, socialisation and memory retention. We also individually tailor hobbies to reflect our clients’ life interests. Our clients love coming to the Cottage where they make new friendships and enjoy shared interests.
Our staff are trained in the Montessori model of care which is designed to focus on what the client can still do, capture their interests and provide a sense of purpose. The result is that people are able to engage in meaningful activities whilst maintaining or even restoring their capacity.
Our staff are the key to the success of the Cottage. They are all experienced and qualified in providing individualised care plans and value the rights of our clients to respect and dignity. They believe all clients should feel at home and they work hard to create a welcoming and stimulating family environment.
The wonderful caring staff are angels and now just like family to us.
