5 ways to wellbeing framework

A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body for our overall wellbeing. And we can strengthen our mind in lots of small day-to-day ways.

‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ is our framework for making wellbeing easy to understand and easier to maintain. Evidence for 5 Ways to Wellbeing, draws on some of the best available international research about mental wellbeing through life, from 400 international scientists.

At Carers ACT we—along with dozens of other organisations—are implementing the 5 ways to wellbeing in our thinking and actions.  For staff, carers and our service recipients we embed the 5 ways in our philosophy.

Our group programs identify the ‘5 way’s so you can be intentional about choosing the areas of wellbeing that make the most difference to you.

By being aware of our thoughts and feelings as they arise, without getting lost in them, can increase our ability to keep calm, reduce stress, think clearly, cope better with difficult situations and improve mood.

Being active can elevate our mood, keep us at a healthier weight, increase our muscle mass, increase our brain cells, and prevent or delay the onset of many illnesses. It also helps to complete our stress cycles.

Learning new things can be fun, boost our self-confidence and self-esteem, help us to find meaning and purpose in life, and connect us with others.

As carers you spend a lot of time helping others. Outside of your caring role even the smallest act, whether it’s a smile, a “thank you”, or a kind word can also make a difference to the life of others and your own.
