I’ve been out of the workforce for a long time while I was caring for my wife. But with her NDIS package, I was able to go back to work part-time.
I quickly realised that it was easier said than done though. I never needed a resume before or sat in front of an interview panel. The seminar facilitator from Face 2 Face was fabulous. She sat down with me one-to-one and we wrote my resume.
She then created two videos for me – one to send to recruiters and one for potential employers. It all helped to get me a job as a community service worker.
If I hadn’t gone to the seminar I wouldn’t have had the knowledge and skills to approach potential employers. So the NDIS gave me the opportunity and Carers ACT gave me the skills.
I now feel more confident and independent and enjoy the variety in my day.”
